The Denture Visit
Dentures generally take four visits to complete, over a two week time period for dentures.
On the third visit, you will have what is called a denture Try-in (the teeth are set in wax). This Denture step is for you to look along with the doctor at the denture; this step is not for fitting the denture. It is to the check bite of the denture and see if you like the arrangement of the denture, color, and size of denture teeth because the finished denture will look the same, so any changes are to be made at this time before the denture base is processed.

Wearing Dentures
There are few that look forward to wearing dentures, but for many adults, wearing a denture is a fact of life. For those who are already wearing dentures, you still must take care of your denture and your mouth. Both your dentures and mouth should be kept clean to prevent the staining of your dentures. Take care of your dentures as directed by your dentist. If you have partial dentures, take some time and make sure that your partial denture clasps are also clean before wearing your partial denture.
Cleaning Dentures
Clean your dentures in water or a denture cleaning solutions at night. When using a denture cleaning solution, follow the instructions on cleaning your denture with the proper denture cleaning process.
Learning to use Dentures
New dentures can feel odd, especially if it is your first time wearing dentures. Talk to your dentist on what to expect when wearing your dentures and how to care for your dentures. Your dentist will also tell you how your dentures will feel when you begin to wear them on a regular basis. Ask your dentist on what to expect when wearing your dentures and what would the warning signs be if something were wrong with your denture. Wait a while before having that steak dinner with your new dentures. It is a very good idea to take small baby steps on learning how to eat with your dentures, first eating soft foods with your dentures and as the weeks go by try eating harder foods with your new dentures.
Denture Relinings
Dentures will not last forever, but usually last for a few years. However, one thing to remember is that your gums will also change shape over time, which will cause your dentures to become loose. A denture Reline is needed when your denture begins to slip or fall out.
Most of the time, the Denture needs to be relined because there are very small changes in your gum tissue that occur over a period of time. These changes can occur because of the age and condition of the denture. Eventually, over time, your denture should be relined before replacing your denture to maximize the use of the denture.
It is recommended that every two years, your denture should be relined due to the gum tissue and biting changes.
